🦠 Welcome to Mutant Hollow—a strange little corner of the internet where science meets the undead. This podcast explores speculative science, microbiology, infectious disease, folklore, and the weird, wonderful theories that might just make zombies real. Unlike blog posts, this page isn’t going anywhere. It’s here to give you a permanent place to learn more about who we are, what we do, and how to reach us.
A Cryptomicrobiology Podcast for Curious Minds, Apocalypse Preppers, and Creature Enthusiasts
Step into the eerie underground lab that is Mutant Hollow — a podcast where science, folklore, and speculative fiction collide in deliciously creepy ways. If you’ve ever wondered “Could that fungus really zombify me?”, or “What if rabies had a glow-up?”, you’re in the right place.
Each season, we dive deep into a new bizarre and fascinating corner of cryptomicrobiology — the fictional (and not-so-fictional) world of microbes, mutations, and mayhem. From brain-hijacking parasites to fungi that turn bugs into puppets, we ask one essential question:
🧟♂️ Will it zombie?
🧟 SEASON ONE:
The Infection Begins
Our premiere season is all about zombies — but not the Hollywood kind. We’re peeling back the layers of science, history, folklore, and speculative evolution to explore what it really takes to turn a living thing into a mindless husk driven by hunger (or spores).
You’ll hear about:
- Real-life fungi like cordyceps that control insects
- Prions, the misfolded proteins behind horrifying diseases like kuru and mad cow
- The terrifying potential of rabies, parasites, and synthetic bioweapons
- Cultural stories and global legends of the undead
- What it would actually take to create a zombie apocalypse (and survive it)
🧬 But we’re not just here to scare you — we’re here to geek out, laugh at the horror, and imagine some truly bonkers scenarios.
🔬 FUTURE SEASONS: Beyond Zombies
Mutant Hollow is more than a zombie zone — it’s a living, mutating ecosystem of oddities.
Future seasons will take us into topics like:
- Cryptids through a scientific lens (think Mothman, Chupacabra, and the Fresno Nightcrawler)
- The microbiology behind science fiction tropes (like alien plagues, shapeshifters, or human-animal hybrids)
- Biohazards, ancient plagues, cursed tombs, and the possible science behind Frankenstein-style horror
- Paranormal pathogens and speculative bioengineering
👩🔬 Meet Your Hosts
🧠 Amber (aka the Crypt Keeper of Curiosity)
Microbiologist. Artist. Zombie apocalypse prepper.
Amber has a background in infectious disease research and a master’s degree in microbiology. When she’s not analyzing ancient plagues or building imaginary outbreaks for your entertainment, she’s making eerie art, collecting bones, and asking questions no sane person would dare to Google. She’s the one steering the mutant ship and always wondering: what if it’s real?
🧪 Stacy (aka the Creature Doctor)
Resident Creature Doctor. Speculative scientist. Closet dungeon dweller.
Stacy is our grounded expert, the voice of scientific reason — recording from her cozy audio cave, affectionately called the “fuzzy soul stealer.” She brings deep insight, brutal honesty, and wild enthusiasm to every weird worm and mutated molecule we throw at her. If Amber’s spinning the tale, Stacy’s giving it the microscope treatment.
Together, they’re your tour guides through the hollows of science and story — challenging each other, arguing lovingly, and laughing at their own doom.
